Slater Six Update

SLATER SIX UPDATE
February 2014

Bula Vinaka (Greetings of Life!) to all our faithful partners in
ministry.

In May, our time as Missionary in Residence at Vanguard University will end. The Slater Six will be transitioning from world missions to stateside ministry. The doors closed for us to return to Fiji in April of 2011. Since then we have been asking the Lord to open the right door of ministry for our family. We agreed to serve at Vanguard, as Missionaries in Residence and for the last two years have enjoyed serving at Vanguard University. As the MIR, we have had the privilege of preparing students for short-term mission’s trips, as well as praying with others who want to pursue the call overseas. The primary purpose of the Missionary in Residence is to advocate missions at Vanguard. We assist with missions training and events, such as Missions Week. We also play a critical role helping Missionary Kids adapt to life in the US after returning from years overseas. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time as missionaries. The past year we have been praying for wisdom regarding our future. We LOVE being missionaries; we will always have a heart for missions.

Recently, the door has opened in Fallbrook, California. Nola and I have been elected as the lead pastors of Living Waters Christian Fellowship. Because of this transition, we will no longer be missionaries overseas. Graduation is in May for Vanguard University, we will be completing our term as MIR until then. Our family will be moving to Fallbrook in June to assume our responsibilities as lead pastors of Living Waters Christian Fellowship, after Susie graduates from high school. Your continued support through the official end of our assignment as MIR at Vanguard would be greatly appreciated.

Seth, our oldest, is now twenty-one and engaged to a beautiful girl named Stephanie. He will be transferring to OSU next year to finish up his English degree. Savannah is a freshman at Vanguard University. Susie will graduate from high school in June. She is currently checking out different colleges. Sam is a freshman in high school and is excelling in water polo.

Our family has been serving as missionaries for 4,697 days or, more specifically, thirteen years. It has been a wonderful adventure, full of God’s blessings. We thank you for supporting us through prayer and finances over the years. We greatly appreciate all of your years of support and service.

Your involvement in Fiji has made an eternal difference in so many lives! You helped us introduce people into God’s Kingdom! You funded and prayed for our evangelism outreaches, for our weekly K.I.C.K. club, for the development of the Wailevu Training Center, for our Kids Quest crusades and for pastoral training conducted during our time in Vanua Levu! You prayed for us as we transitioned into South Pacific Bible College and became the President during our second term. You interceded with us through several cyclones, many moments of spiritual warfare, and through life’s daily challenges that reminded us God’s faithfulness! You sent many incredible teams that ministered alongside us evangelizing, building churches and fixing structures at SPBC, blessing pastors, and pouring your love upon the people of Fiji. You have sent us birthday cards, oatmeal, and surprise packages in the mail that always seemed to arrive at God’s appointed moment—right when we needed it! And after our family discovered we would not be returning to Fiji, you have continued to stand alongside us and have helped us to share our hearts for missions here at Vanguard University. We are so grateful for each of you. It has been a great privilege for our family to be your hands extended to the nation of Fiji and the campus of Vanguard. We want to be obedient to the next adventure that God has laid out for us.

Vinaka Vaka Levu (Thank you very much)!

With respect and gratitude,

Steve and Nola, Seth, Savannah, Susie and Sam Slater

Steve, It has been a blessing getting to know you at North Hills Church! You will be missed, but we know God has a plan for you, Nola and your family! May the Lord bless all of you as you open your hearts to your new flock in Fallbrook---for "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ".

Your Brother in the Lord,
Chris Macrorie

Thank you for stepping in as Children's Pastors at NHC. We went out today and bought Sean his first "real" Bible and devotional. I know you guys have contributed to his growing love for God. Love your family dearly!!!
